In January 2018, the Meetings Star awards, together with the Conventa trade show, celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Kongress Magazine, the leading meetings industry magazine in New Europe, organizes the annual Meeting Star awards based on the Meetologue methodology for evaluating destinations on the basis of field trips and research, thus contributing to ensuring high quality products and services. This methodology has been developed by Kongress Magazine and has become an important reference point for meeting planners on deciding and choosing destinations. Numerous organizers have confirmed that the recipients of plaques are at the top in their field and, therefore, the awards are an actual reflection of the situation in the market.

Athens received a special plaque at this year’s awards for winning the 9th place in the top 10 of the XL MEETING DESTINATIONS category under the Best Meeting Destination 2017 umbrella category. The selection of the top 10 finalists was made amongst 19 highly-established destinations in the meetings industry sector after thorough assessment.

The XL MEETING DESTINATIONS category features the largest European meeting destinations- able to host over 2,000 congress participants- which have exceptionally developed congress infrastructure and excellent aviation links. These destinations are mainly important aviation hubs.

Even more, Athens finished 2nd amongst the 15 Best Destinations in ‘New’ Europe for 2017.

The Meetings Star awards take place every year during the Conventa trade show in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The 2-day B2B event offers exhibitors the chance to meet around 170 international and more than 100 regional and Slovene buyers, all in one place.

2018 was the 1st year for the Athens CVB to visit Conventa. The Athens CVB team held 40 scheduled B2B appointments with high-quality buyers, mostly from Europe, which had a targeted interest in holding meetings and events in the Greek capital.

Apart from the private meetings, the joint social events organized by Conventa gave the chance to the Athens CVB team to network with cherry-picked hosted buyers even after the trade-show hours.

The promotion of Athens, along with the rest of the Conventa exhibitors, doesn't stop with the completion of the trade show. Conventa is in continuous communication with over 50.000 meeting professionals, promoting the exhibitors during the entire year.
