Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has published its Meetings Outlook, 2016 Summer Edition. This special report indicates meeting and event industry projections remain solidly positive as planners and suppliers adapt and learn to thrive in the evolving seller’s market landscape.

Meetings Outlook presents future industry trends and predictions from MPI members, including meeting professionals on MPI’s Business Research Panel. Every quarter, research firm Association Insights surveys the panel, asking a short series of quantitative questions related to the economy and a qualitative question regarding the individual’s professional outlook.

Key findings include:

  • 27% of respondents said political elections have a significant influence on meetings and events.
  • The past year has seen a 16% drop in respondents that project positive growth for upcoming live event attendance (down from 66%); yet, live and virtual attendance figures are still expected to grow 1.5% and 2.5%, respectively.
  • 30% of respondents are avoiding destinations that have laws prohibiting universal restroom use; while 19% are avoiding locations with liberal handgun or weapons laws.
  • 60% of respondents predict favorable business conditions for the year ahead.
